Answers

What does Home Tutoring Opportunities have to offer?
HTO has over two decades of experience in this field. We offer training, support, and materials so you can create your own flourishing home tutorial service. You will learn to start, manage, and build a home tutoring service in which you and/or your teachers tutor in students' homes.

I’m not a teacher. Can I still run this business?
Yes, although this is a perfect business for teachers. All educational experience is valuable when talking with clients and tutors. We all have experience in the field of education as students, and many of us have recent experience in this field through our children or grandchildren. You do not need to tutor, for your network of teachers can tutor your students.

Is it possible to begin this business part-time?
Yes, you can begin with one or more teachers and expand your business when you are ready.

Can this business be run from a home office?
Yes! Because most of your work is done over the phone, this business is ideal for people who desire the comfort and convenience of working from home.

Can I support myself and my family with this business?
Many people are doing more than just supporting themselves—they’re realizing their financial dreams. The sky truly is the limit, as there are no “exclusive territories” to limit your growth.

What other expenses are involved to start?
This business has very little start-up and overhead costs. If you already have a computer and home office, then all you need are business licenses, stationery, advertising expense, miscellaneous office supplies, and perhaps another phone line and insurance. A website is recommended but not required at start-up.

Why is tutoring becoming more popular?
More and more people are turning to tutoring because it works. One-on-one instruction is a highly effective way to learn. With the growing number of two-income families, parents often don’t have the time or desire to assume a teaching role with their children. Parents are often dissatisfied with the public school system; parents of both private school students and home school students see the value of hiring private tutors for their children as well.

How does the HTO business model compete with well-known tutoring centers?
Very well. With centers, parents have the inconvenience of driving their students, and the students are usually tutored in small groups. Typically the students must use the centers’ curriculum. So after a full day of school and one to two hours at the center, the students are supposed to go home and do their homework. Parents prefer our “homework/school assistance” model, in which the focus is on using the student’s materials to insure classroom success.
